SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, Calif. Women worldwide are the most adversely impacted by accelerating climate change, but in the midst of hardships, they stand as vital stakeholders and visionary solution-builders - making it imperative that their experiences and expertise are centered in the context of the GCAS and related events, and in all media, policy, and decision-making.

A week before world leaders arrive in San Francisco for the GCAS and just days before the global ‘Rise For Climate’ march - journalists and media makers are invited to join a special online press conference to hear from grassroots, frontline, and Indigenous women leaders to learn exactly what women are bringing to the table in terms of calls to action within a climate justice framework, policy plans,  and on-the-ground solutions to climate change.

Sept. 8th - Marching with the Women For Climate Justice Contingent in San Francisco

A diverse coalition of women’s groups, climate justice organizations, and others, will organize and march together as ‘Women For Climate Justice’ during the September 8th Rise For Climate march in San Francisco. 

 

Media and press are invited to join the contingent in-action for interview, film, and photo opportunities of women leaders marching, chanting, and demonstrating power and solutions.

​

The Contingent will meet to begin the march at 10:00 am on Steuart Street midway between Market and Mission Streets, under ‘Women For Climate Justice banners. Updates via the Women For Climate Justice Contingent Facebook page.

Sept. 11th - [Public Event] - The Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Women Leading Solutions on the Frontlines of Climate Change

During the Women’s Assembly For Climate Justice, international advocates and policy-makers, and grassroots, Indigenous, and frontline women leaders will join together in solidarity to speak out against environmental and social injustice, draw attention to root causes of the climate crisis, and present the diverse array of visions, projects and strategies with which they are working to shape a healthy and equitable world.

The press is invited to record powerful testimony and analysis shared throughout event presentations, and/or to make use of a reserved media space at the Green Room for interviews.

Sept. 12th - Presentation of Call to Action from global Women For Climate Justice to the leadership of GCAS

On September 12th, representatives of the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network will formally deliver to the leadership of the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) - ‘A Call For Climate Justice & Immediate Action: A Message from Women for Climate Justice to the Global Climate Action Summit Steering Committee, Government Representatives and Participants’.

​

This document has been endorsed by global climate justice and women’s rights organizations including Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) International; Indigenous Women of the Americas Defending Mother Earth Treaty; World March of Women U.S. Chapter; Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO); TierrActiva (Peru); Lead Tchad (Leadership For Environnement and Développement)(Chad); Reaccion Climatica (Bolivia); Central Asia and Afghanistan Women and Water Association; and Support for Women in Agriculture and Environment (Uganda), and many more.
