Building upon years of engagement in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) climate negotiations process, the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) will be in Antalya, Türkiye for COP31 from November 8–19, 2026. At this pivotal moment for international climate action, WECAN will continue advocating for a Just Transition, a fair and fast transition away from fossil fuels, gender-responsive climate policy, Indigenous rights and leadership, Rights of Nature, robust and just climate finance, and implementation that keeps 1.5°C within reach.
As the world faces the growing reality of 1.5°C overshoot, WECAN will highlight the urgent need to address the lack of political will driving continued fossil fuel expansion and climate inaction, while advancing the leadership and solutions of women, Indigenous Peoples, and frontline communities. Our advocacy will include engagement around the Gender Action Plan, Just Transition Mechanism, Fossil Fuel Treaty, Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, Rights of Nature, climate finance, forests, and the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF), as well as tracking key government positions and developments across the negotiations and broader COP31 political agenda.
During the two weeks in Antalya, WECAN will also host and participate in several formal side events, press conferences, and the People’s Climate Summit, bringing together women leaders in all of their diversity, Indigenous Peoples, frontline communities, policymakers, civil society partners, and movements from around the world. We will share policy analysis, research, community-led solutions, and strategies grounded in a climate justice and feminist framework, while working alongside partners to strengthen collective action and accountability. As governments gather to negotiate the next steps for global climate action, WECAN will continue to call for commitments to move beyond announcements and into meaningful and equitable climate action.

Formal UN Side Event | Women Leading Climate Solutions on the Frontlines of the Climate Crisis

1.5°C is a vital guardrail that safeguards human and ecological well-being, and is an essential cornerstone of the Paris Climate Agreement and ensures a resilient and thriving planet for generations to come. Women in all their diversity sit on the frontlines of climate impacts, and are leaders in effective climate mitigation strategies and solutions.
At this side event, we will highlight women worldwide as innovators and agents of change in forest protection, climate solutions, women’s leadership, just transition, and mitigating and adapting to climate change and environmental degradation. The presentations will demonstrate the efforts women are making towards ambitious climate action in response to the Paris Climate Agreement with a gender lens while also uplifting progress in the Gender Action Plan, and Just Transition Work Program.
Pavilion Event | Frontline Women’s Health in the Climate Crisis

Worldwide, studies are showing that the climate crisis and fossil fuel extraction are having a disproportionate effect on women’s health and well-being. Impacts include increased risks of cancer, reproductive harm, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and mental and emotional distress related to air pollution and water contamination. Yet, like most health harms experienced by women, these impacts continue to receive inadequate attention from policy makers, health care providers, researchers, and advocates.
During this panel, frontline community leaders, health advocates, and leaders from climate justice organizations will delve into the toll the climate crisis and fossil fuels are taking on women’s health, and the subsequent impacts, including increased economic and caretaking strains. Simultaneously, panelists will share how women are taking action in their communities to restore traditional health practices, ensure food security, and protect the health of the planet, which is essential to the health of their communities.
