Rights of Nature: A Systemic Solution to the Climate Crisis

Belém, Brazil — On Tuesday, November 18, panelists will bring forth calls to action for Rights of Nature, a global movement to recognize Earth’s fundamental and inviolable right to exist and thrive. This event will be a press conference organized by the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) at COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

Rights of Nature articulates a new legal framework and economy based on living in balance with Earth’s natural systems. Presenters will share successes from the Rights of Nature movement, and how it can offer a systemic framework for defending biodiversity, communities, and our climate. By recognizing nature's rights in legal and management systems, the global community can chart a way forward for stronger governance structures that prioritize the health of ecosystems and communities, halt biodiversity loss, uplift Indigenous rights and knowledge, and create resilient communities and natural systems capable of withstanding climate change impacts.
